While some mobility bed mattresses can work well with adjustable beds, the general advice is that it is best to replace a regular mattress with a special mattress that is flexible enough for easy adjustments such as reclining. This is to prevent slipping, discomfort, and damage to the mattress itself, as well as to provide increased safety.

Another reason for choosing a mattress specific to electric beds is that they tend to be better suited for people who are more bed bound. Plus they have special features such as water resistance, are antibacterial and provide better pressure relief.

Choosing the right mattress for your mobility bed can be overwhelming as there are so many options. But it doesn’t have to be. We know that after size, the most important considerations before choosing a mattress are preferred firmness, thickness, pressure distribution and the amount of use.

For more information, see our comprehensive guide on choosing the right mattress.

Most mattresses have a lifetime of five to 10 years, while memory foam mattresses enjoy a slightly longer lifetime of up to 15 years.

As these mattresses are specifically designed for being used in conjunction with adjustable beds, spending longer time on them or using them to recline and rise does not affect their longevity.

The exact length of time your mattress will last depends on the make and model of the mattress as well as the amount of use it gets. Having said that, if you are no longer finding your mattress comfortable, you should consider changing it (this advice applies to traditional bed mattresses too).

Just like a traditional bed mattress, you will need to replace your adjustable bed mattress at some point. As a general rule of thumb, we recommend replacing the mattress on your electric bed every eight to ten years. This will ensure you get the best possible support – and the best night’s sleep.

Regardless of its age, if you find that you’re not sleeping as well as you used to, your mattress is no longer providing the support you need, it has been damaged, is saggy or lumpy in places, or you are regularly waking up with stiff muscles or joints, it is probably time to start shopping for a new mattress for your mobility bed.

Memory foam is designed to provide even support for our bodies by distributing weight across the surface of the mattress.

In other types of mattress, pressure points may be created because the heaviest parts of the body – such as the shoulders and lower torso – is where the majority of the sleeper’s weight is.

By eliminating pressure points, we toss and turn less at night, feel more refreshed in the morning and potentially reduce our daytime pain too.

People with back problems especially appreciate memory foam because it provides the support that is needed to relieve the body of stress and tension while we sleep. One of the greatest benefits of memory foam is its ability to adjust to our bodies and keep the spine in natural alignment, rather than forcing it to assume a linear shape when we lie down.

Many couples find memory foam to be ideal because they can finally sleep soundly next to each other. If one person moves or gets out of bed, a memory foam mattress means that the motion will not disturb the other sleeper, making this a truly attractive option for people who get up frequently in the night.

Memory foam is known for lasting much longer than the average sprung mattress. And well-constructed memory foam mattresses such as ours can last for up to 15 years. We pride ourselves on offering extremely high-quality, hand-crafted mattresses, to reflect the rest of our excellent product range.
